Gartner Session Recap: Unifying Fragmented Business Context for AI Scale

At the Gartner IT Symposium in Orlando, QueryStory CEO Shapor Naghibzadeh and Chief Product Officer Dave Glusic explored a challenge in enterprise AI: having the right data doesn’t guarantee the right decision. AI also needs the business context behind the numbers, including assumptions, constraints, prior experience, and the judgment people apply every day.

The context that changes the decision

Consider a sales team ten days from quarter-end. The forecast is above goal, largely because of one $50 million deal. But the buyer has a history of taking longer to approve large deals, and discounts haven’t accelerated the process. Smaller expansions may be a better use of the team’s time.

The data hasn’t changed. The context has. And with it, the decision. The misses add up to the inefficiency in decision processes. The average large company loses $250M annually due to missed judgements.

Bring business knowledge into the process

Better decisions require more than data retrieval. Teams need to understand the goals and constraints, clarify definitions, account for local conditions, and learn from prior decisions. They also need to know who holds relevant knowledge and when changing conditions should trigger a review.

Agents scale the work. People own the decision.

Agents can help gather evidence, explore alternatives, and synthesize findings. People clarify assumptions, validate trade-offs, and decide what to do next. Business decision owners work alongside domain experts, knowledge engineers, and IT and data teams to connect business meaning with reliable data and shared controls.

Evaluation closes the loop. When evidence conflicts, conditions change, or results surprise us, teams can identify gaps, ask the right people for clarification, and update the context for future analyses.

Adapt with the changing landscape of context surfaces

The knowledge behind a decision is spread across warehouse data, metric definitions, policies, behavioral patterns, documents, emails, and conversations. The composite context landscape connects these sources around priority decisions, combining governed enterprise data with the business knowledge needed to interpret it.

Organizations can start with specific workflows and knowledge centers, then expand as needs evolve, without having to document everything upfront. QueryStory was built to make the process simple without the specialized knowledge, while providing confident outcomes to teams.

The central idea from our Gartner talk: AI needs more than access to data. It needs context to extend beyond mere facts and get to judgment, surfaces, and action, so people can make better decisions with less rework.
